It is particularly popular among fans of Japanese media, but we love it not because it only provides a vast collection of Japanese content, it also offers a significant number of titles translated into English and other languages.
Nearly the same as other eBooks vendors, we can view Book Walker eBooks online via the its own online viewer and apps. But is it possible to download eBooks from BOOK WALKER for local backing up and offline reading? Can we download mangas and light novels to SD card? Can we save them in PDF format? Single purchase eBooks or subscribe to an Unlimited reading plan first
Sign up or log in to BookWalker website first, and then add one free comic or click the book you want to buy.
Then "Add to Cart" and complete the payment.
Purchased eBooks will be listed in BOOK WALKER bookshelf. We then can use the online viewer or apps (available for PC, Mac, Android, IOS) to open and download them.
Tips: For Book Walker japan customers, you don't need to purchase all the titles you like. You can join the subscription plan first and then choose which ever you like and check it to your reading list.
Download BookWalker eBooks to Windows computer
We can use the browser viewer to read what we purchased from bookwalker store. However, the online web reader has no offline reading functionality.
Lucily, we can get books downloaded to our computer, if we install the BOOK?WALKER for Windows app.

Get the applicaion started and then log in. Click on "Sync" to sync all the newly added books, and then click on "Download" button and wait for the processing completed.
Where are my bookwalker eBooks stored on PC
By default, the downloaded Book Walker eBooks are saved in BOOK?WALKER for Windows/contents folder under user name/Appdata/Roaming.
Is it possible to change the downloaded location for BookWalker windows app books? Of course, yes, click on "Settings" -> "Change location".
Download BOOKWALKER eBooks to Mac? No.
Though the official website lists a Mac version BookWalker app, but in fact, it won't work on nearly all of the MAC computers. Because the BookWalker stopped upgrading the desktop apps since 2019, and the Mac app won't run on Mac if the OS is Catalina or above (the 32 bit version packages are no longer compatible with macOS.)
Tips for using BookWalker Windows app
1. I highly recommend login to BookWalker with the email address and password, not using the social account. Otherwise we won't be allowed to read and download BookWalker eBooks offline.
2. The online book viewer (via browser) won't allow us to download Book Walker books.
3. Some free titles are not always free, they will expire. When they expired, you are not able to read and download them unless you purchase another copy.
4. The downloaded books are with DRM protected. They are tied to the user's account and cannot be freely shared or transferred.
5. The BOOKWALKER for Windows app won't sync our subscribed titles from Bookwalker Japan. To download Bookwalker unlimited eBooks, we must use the Android or IOS app.
Download BOOKWALKER eBooks to Android/IOS
It's convenient if we use the BOOK?WALKER for Android or IOS app to help view and download eBooks from bookwalker.
It display all we purchased titles under "My Library" tab. Click the cloud icon and then the downloading will start soon.
When a download is completed, the cloud icon will disappear and the file is saved on our device.
Notes and tips:
1. Some books will expire even though we have downloaded them offline before the expiry time.
2. To bulk download Bookwalker eBooks within the app, press the “?” or "Select" icon then “Select all” or select the desired eBooks to “Download” from the menu.
3. The downloaded bookwalker eBooks (within the android app) are saved here: /data/data/jp.bookwalker.kreader.android/files/
Download Japanese eBooks from Bookwalker Global store?
BookWalker global is a great resource for fans of Japanese manga and light novels, offering a convenient and legal way to access a wide variety of content. But please note that, what we will get from Global store are in English version, not in Japanese.
To purcahse and download Japanese eBooks in Japanese language, we must switch to Japan store.
Good news is that the BOOKWALKER platform uses only one user accounts' database, I mean, we can use the same ID and password that we use for the Global Store to log in to Japan store.
What's more, if we want to download one book both in English version and Japanese version, we must place 2 payments (from 2 stores). We are not allowed to purchase contents/titles from both stores in one settlement.
Download BookWalker eBooks in ePub/PDF format?
Some titles are available for DRM-free download, enabling us to read offline without restrictions.
But the greater part of the eBooks are protected by DRM. They are Bookwalker its uniqe EPUB files.
For example, when I click one of my downloaded Bookwalker manga files and locate those images, I fail to open and view them on my Win11 computer.
We are not albe to read and transfer BookWalker downloaded files to other devices unless we can get rid of the drm limitation and convert them to common ePub or PDF format. Unfortunatly, untile now it's nearly impossible because the BOOKWALKER has the strictest DRM (the most draconian) among online retailers.
